小さなきゅうり | Baby Cucumber

何回かきゅうりを育てようとしたけど、いままではあまり上手くいかなかった。今年は新しい種を買ってみた。最初は葉っぱが全部食べられちゃったけど、今年は収穫できそう♪

I tried growing cucumbers and never really succeeded the last few years and this year, I got a bag of new seeds and at first it wasn't looking so good after all the leaves were eaten away buy some insects. But it looks like I will get something to harvest this year :)

モビールを作った | New Mobile

数年前、姉の誕生日にモビールを作った。そろそろ新しいのにしたいと言っていたので新しく作った。不思議な生き物が好きだと言っていたので、ちょっとそれを意識して作ったら、宇宙っぽいとよろこんでくれた。細い糸を前使ったら、よくこんがらがってしまっていたので、ちょっと太めの糸を使った。ちょうど七夕の飾りにもいいかな。

I made a mobile for my sister's birthday a few years ago and she mentioned that she'd like a new one so I made a new one for her birthday. She was saying how she liked the strange creature that was on the first one I gave her, so I made some little creatures. I had to keep adding little pieces to balance it out but I'm happy with the result. My sister seemed pleased too. 

めんぱお弁当箱｜Menpa Lunch Box

姉が曲げわっぱのお弁当箱がすごくいいと言っていたので、早速買ってみた。これは、ふるさと納税でもらった、宮崎県のめんぱ。普段は毎日お弁当。ご飯が本当に美味しいままでびっくり！

My sister recommended me magewappa lunch box. It's a kind of lunch box made from curving wood. I got this one from Miyazaki prefecture and the rice tastes so much better. Apparently, the breathable quality of the material allows the food to stay fresh. Yum yum. 

ヨーグルトチーズケーキ｜Yogurt Cheesecake

ほぼ日に載ってたなかしましほのレシピでヨーグルトチーズケーキを作った。簡単で落ち着く味。なかしまみほのお菓子はキラキラしてなくて、来週にでもまた食べたくなる味。お店のお菓子は気持ちが「わっー」って高ぶるけど、なんだかこうやって落ち着いた気持ちで食べれるお菓子いいな。

Yogurt cheesecake and kiwi sauce I made from Shiho Nakashima's recipe. Her recipes are really simple and easy to make. I love the taste too. It's somehow calming rather than the sugar rush from other sweets. 

ジンジャービスケット | Ginger Biscuit

なかしまみほの、初めてでも失敗しない51のレシピ まいにちおやつ に載ってるジンジャークッキー焼いた。バターの代わりに太白ごま油を使う。両手でちょこちょこっと混ぜるだけでとっても簡単。おいしくできたー！これなら、ちょっとクッキー食べたいときにパッととつくれる。

Made some ginger biscuits. Just mix flour, a bit of sugar, ginger, honey and sesame oil with both hands, cut them in shape and bake for 20 minutes. Tastes quite different from shop bought biscuits, but in a good way :)  They are super easy to make, I wouldn't mind baking them every week. 

きゅうりとキウイ漬け | Cucumber and Kiwi Pickle

 

ホークスみよしの 野菜をおいしく アイデア漬けものに載ってた、きゅうりとキウイ漬けを作った。めずらしい組み合わせだけど甘しょっぱくておいしい ♪

Kiwi and cucumber pickle I made. It's an unusual combination but tastes so good! Definitely a dish to make again in summer. 

  

丸山千枚田 | Maruyama Sennmaida

南紀熊野古道フリー切符を使って、熊野古道の通り峠と丸山千枚田ハイキングに行ってきた。フリー切符は3日間有効で、バスも乗れるのでお得！最初は1泊2日でキャンプする予定だったけど、1日目が雨模様だったので晴れた次ぎの日に日帰りで行ってきた。

2時間半のコースなので、ゆっくりできる予定が、帰りの特急列車に間に合うバスに乗ろうと思うとちょっと急ぎ足。

熊野駅では時間があったので、図書館でゆっくり。とても面白そうな本が沢山あって良い図書館でした。

I used the Kumnokodo pass and went on a hike to Maruyama Sennmaida, one of the Kumano Kodo trails. At first, we were planning to go on a two day trip, camping at a nearby campsite but since it was raining on the first day, we just went on a day trip the second day.

It's only two and a half hour hike. But it turned out that we couldn't take it too slow to make it to on time for the bus back to the train station.

With plenty of time for the train back, back at Kumano Station. We killed the time looking around the library. Which had a great collection.

電車に乗る前に駅前の和菓子屋さんがおすすめしてくれた、丸山飯店の中華定食。大きな骨付き鶏唐揚、卵焼き、チャーシューにご飯とスープが付いて800円。すごいボリュームで食べきれないと思ったけど完食。帰りの電車では和菓子屋さんで買ったどら焼きも。

We had dinner at a Chinese restaurant that was recommended to us by the staff who runs a Japanese sweet shop. This big fried chicken, egg omelette and sliced pork with soup and rice for 800 yen. Not bad I think. I wasn't sure if I could eat it all but managed to eat everything before catching the train. I even ate dorayaki that I bought from the sweet shop on the train!

バナナロールケーキ | Banana Cake Roll

基本のお菓子の本を見るとだいたいロールケーキが載ってるので作ってみた。
スポンジは卵がたくさん！小麦粉は 30g しか入れなかった。

スポンジがクッキングシートにくっついてしまって、うすっぺらくなちゃった。
クリームも最後にあふれ出てむりやり丸めて、ラップをして冷やした。
次の日はなんとか、丸くなったロールケーキ。

スポンジはちょっと硬めだったからまた挑戦してみたいなー。

Whenever I check some basic baking books, there's usually a banana cake roll recipe. So I decided to give it a go. I was surprised that there are so many eggs in it. Three! and only 30g of flour.

Half the sponge got stuck on the greaseproof paper and the cream spilled out of the sponge on the edges when I rolled it up. But I somehow managed to wrap it up and left it in the fridge overnight.

Result? It's a cake roll alright but the sponge was a little firm. Something I'd like to give another go at.

梅干し本漬け | Making Umeboshi

赤シソを塩でもんで、しぼった汁に梅酢を足すときれいなピンク色に。
I got some red shiso to add to the plums. The juice turned into a beautiful pink colour after adding some of the liquid from the plums.

赤くなった梅酢をぷくぷくになった梅と混ぜて数週間待つ。きれいな色♪
Add the pink juice into the puffy plums. Lovely colours! 

ブルーベリーができた | Blueberries

ブルーベリーが色づいてきた。
鳥も食べにきてた。
水やりが足りなかったのかシワシワのもあるけど、おいしい♪

The blueberries are finally blue!
The birds are coming to enjoy them too.
Some are a little shriveled up but still delicious. 

手作り梅酒 | Making Plum Wine

友人に梅をもらったので、梅酒と梅シロップと梅干しを作った。

I got some plums from a friend so prepared some plum wine, plum syrup and umeboshi.

まずは、水に漬けて、
First, soak in water.

茎を取って、
Then take the stems out.

数ヶ月後を楽しみに待つ。
And wait patiently for a few months. 

日本モンキーセンター | Japan Monkey Centre

モンキーセンターに行ってきた。
日本モンキーセンターは、犬山のモンキーパークの隣にあるサル類動物園。
名前のとおり、動物園というより公園という感じでゆっくりお散歩しながらみて回れる。混んでなくて、スタッフの方もみんな親切。家族連れのお客さんもいたけど、学生さんも多かったのが印象に残った。なぜ、あんなにゆったりしるのかと考えてみたけど、スタッフのみんなのサルを大事に見守ってる姿勢が伝わってくるからなのかもしれない。

I  visited Japan Monkey Centre. It's kind of like a zoo but I felt it was more like a park with monkeys running around. It's less like an amusement park, but a relaxing space where you can stroll about and observe the monkeys. 

手作り焼きプリン | Creme Caramel

暑い日はひんやりしたデザートが食べたくなる。焼きプリンを作った。
はじめてでも かんたん&おいしい!手作りお菓子をみて作ったけどちょっと甘過ぎた。キャラメルはもう少し焦がせた方がよかったかな。

材料は、卵、砂糖と牛乳とバニラビーンズ。

I made creme caramel as it is feeling more and more like the season for cold desserts. It turned out a bit too sweet for my taste. Perhaps I should have left the caramel to cook a bit longer for some bitterness.

All you need is eggs, sugar, milk and vanilla pods. 

にんじんときゅうりのピクルス | Carrot and Cucumber Pickles

最近暑くなってきたのでピクルスを作った。このごろ冷たくてすっぱいものが食べたくなる。お酢、水、砂糖、塩とスパイスを入れて火にかける。瓶に野菜を入れて、ピクルス液を足して２、３日でおいしくさっぱりしたピクルスの出来上がり！レモンも入れるとさらにさっぱり仕上がって夏にはぴったり。

今回はいますぐ使える 常備菜の献立帖 を参考に作った。同じ本のゆで卵とセロリのサラダもおいしい ♪

It's getting hotter now and these days I feel more like eating colder foods. Today I made some picked carrots and cucumbers. Boil some water, vinegar, sugar and some salt with some spices and pour it over the cut vegetables. I like to add some pieces of lemon for freshness. 

パウンドケーキとマーブルクッキー | Baking Pound Cake and Marble Cookies

最近料理が楽しくなってきたのでお菓子も挑戦♪
マーブルクッキーは最初ちょっと焼きすぎちゃったけどサックリできた。模様はマーブルより牛模様みたい、、、

パウンドケーキはしっとり美味しくできた。レモンを入れるからもっとレモンっぽい味を期待してたけどプレーンな味。

どっちも基本のお菓子 おいしくできる段取りとコツのレシピ。実際作りながら見るととても分かりやすくデザインされてるとおもいました。

Now that I'm really into cooking, I thought I'll try out some baking as well. The the marble pattern turned out something more like a cow pattern but tasted good. I liked the pound cake recipe too. Really moist and easy to make. I was expecting it to be more like a lemon drizzle cake though.

ブルーベリーとさやえんどうの実 | Blueberries and Snow Peas

ブルーベリーの実ができてきた。まだまだ緑だけどゆっくりふくらんできた。ちょうどいいときに鳥に食べられそう。

Starting to look more like blueberries now. Not quite blue yet but slowly growing fatter. Hopefully the birds won't eat them all before I do. 

今年もさやえんどうの種を保管してまた秋に植えます。

Saving the seeds again to sow in the autumn. 

はじめてのストウブ鍋 | My first Staub Cocotte

最近料理がすごく楽しくて、色々ほしくなって、staub ココット ラウンド 20cmを買ってしまった。サイズは普段使ってる鍋より少し小さめだけど、カレーは４皿分くらいできる。カレーやスープは多めに作って次の日とかにもとっておきたいから、現実的には1人か2人用かと思う。

ルクルーゼとストウブ で迷ったけど、ルクルーゼは吹きこぼれると友人が言っていたのでストウブにしてよかったかな。ルクルーゼの方が見かけは可愛いけど、、、ストウブは実用的な感じ。このサイズだとそんなに重さも気になりません。

さっそく、パスタソースとカレーを作ってみた。一度温まると弱火でもぐつぐついってるので、普段使ってるコンロより小さいので調理してもいいのかな。やっぱり美味しくできて、これからさらに料理が楽しくなりそう。

I've really gotten into cooking these days. It's so satisfying following the recipe step by step and turns out into a delicious meal at the end. I don't know why I didn't get into it before but I guess I just saw it more as a chore.

As a a result, I've been shopping for some cooking items. One of them is this Staub cocotte. It was quite expensive but I'm hoping to cook with it and enjoy the meals for some time. 

がんだて公園 | Gandate Park

巌立峡 | Gandate Gorge

あかがねとよ | Akaganetoyo

子供の日に友人4人と下呂市小坂にある、がんだて公園に行ってきた。みんな大人だけど車を持ってないので、名古屋から青空切符を使って、電車とバスで行った。朝6時に集合して、がんだて公園のバス停には10時30に着いた。

がんだて公園は2時間半の周辺コースがあるとのことなので帰りのバスに間に合うようにちょっと早足で周った。巌立は約5,4000年前に御嶽山の噴火物でできた溶岩の岩。15分くらい登ったところに御嶽山の1合目がある。そこからは、ほとんど平。のんびり歩ける。1時間歩いたところにどんびき平がある。どんびきとは、下呂ではカエルのことだと教わった。ほんとにカエルがたくさん鳴いてた。そこでお昼にしたけど、少し下ってあかがねとよまで行ったほうが、いい休憩場所だと思う。ぐるっと回って2時間かかって、バスの時間まで余裕があったから、もう少しゆっくり回ってもよかったなー。

下呂の温泉に入って帰った。ゆっくりハイキングして、温泉に入れるいい一日コースだった♪

がんだて公園の近くにも温泉とキャンプ場もあったから今度キャンプもしてゆっくりするのもいいな。

I went on a pleasant hike with four friends. We went to a place called Gandate Park in Gero. There is a magnificent volcanic rock formation from about 5,400 years ago, when Mt. Ontake erupted. There is an easy circular route that takes about 2 hours. On the way back we went to a hot spring in Gero, which was a great way to end the day. 

月と農業 3 | Moon Planting 3

芽がでてきた | Some seeds sprouting

満月から下弦の月の期間は根菜、球根、多年草を植える。

（玉ねぎ、じゃがいも、ベリー類など）

人参の種を蒔いて、イチゴの苗を植え付けた。

人参は、まだちゃんと育ったことないけど新鮮な人参は美味しいので、今年も試してみる。イチゴは初めて。育ってくれるといいなー。

In the third quarter, from full moon to last quarter moon, we are meant to sow bulbs, root crops and perennials, such as onions, potatoes and berries. I sowed some carrots seeds which I've attempted a few times but have failed. But homegrown carrots are so tasty, I'm trying them again this year. I also planted strawberries. It's the first time growing them on this plot.
